With the Triple Macho concept projecting the Muscular silhouette, Muscular body parts and Muscular chassis, FZ 16 is an object de’art on the street and reflects visual expression of performance. The bike boasts of a 153cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder high torque engine for active & aggressive city riding. The engine is born out of the quest for the ultimate in intake efficiency, combustion efficiency and minimum horsepower loss and its breathtaking pickup. The single-axis balancer reduces vibration for more comfortable riding. A negative pressure type Φ26mm carburetor with TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) contributes to outstanding engine response on the FZ16. The placement of this model’s ‘MidShip Muffler’ is toward the center of the machine to achieve good concentration of mass, exhaust efficiency and handling. While 5-speed transmission provides a smooth operational touch, the gear ratios are set to provide optimum performance and agility in city riding.

A Monocross suspension ensures agile running performance and handling. At the same time it inhibits machine bottoming while riding with a tandem passenger and provides a very comfortable ride. The front suspension is 41 mm thick, besides good absorption of shocks from the road, this suspension also provides good damping characteristics during acceleration and braking.

FZ 16 also has India’s first “140/60-17” size rear radial with a 60% aspect ratio contributes to better grip and handling stability. To achieve sufficient cooling effect, the cylinder head on the FZ16 engine is designed with especially large fins as well as a shroud (air intake cowl) to effectively direct airflow to the engine.

The FZ 16 will be offered in 3 colours namely Lava Red, Midnight Black and Flaming Orange. The bike will be priced at Rs. 65000 ex showroom (All India).

YAMAHA YZF R1

Yes the Yamaha R1 and MT01 are finally launched in India. Both are six-gear road machines and share the same ex-showroom price at Rs10.5 lakh each. The bikes are available in New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad initially.

“We are also planning to market these bikes in Mumbai, Pune and Chandigarh in the near future. In fact, we plan to sell these bikes in 10 cities within six months. We have a network plan to distribute these bikes through 50 outlets across the country by 2010”

said P. Sam, Yamaha Group head, marketing & sales. on the sidelines of the launch. The company has annual target of selling 400 to 500 units of the newly launched machines.

Both bikes are amongst the best Yamaha has to offer. The R1 is all about power and speed, while the MT01 has loads of torque.

YAMAHA YZF R-125

Let me make one thing clear that Yamaha currently has no concrete plans for bringing this bike in India any time soon. The bikes that its bringing to India are YZF R1 and MT01.
The battle is between the Japs and a Taiwanese challenger Kymco for the best entry level sports bike in 125 cc. The segment had been dominated by Honda CBR125 in most of the markets around the world so far. But with the Yamaha YZF-R125 equations are about to change.

This is the all-new 2008 Yamaha YZF-R125 motorcycle which will go head to head with the top-selling Honda CBR125R

The Yamaha YZF-R125 uses an all-new liquid-cooled 124cc, four-valve, short-stroke single cylinder engine, which is claimed to be the most powerful 125cc four-stroke motorcycle available. It has a six-speed gearbox and fuel injection, and a Yamaha YZF-R6 style stubby exhaust with twin catalysts is fitted.

A full size Deltabox beam frame is used to make the Yamaha YZF-R125 feel and ride closer to a full size bike than the Honda CBR125R, an aluminium ‘banana’ style swingarm, 33mm diameter forks and a 292mm brake disc/Brembo caliper and wide tyres complete the mini-sportsbike chassis.

The styling is close to the new 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6 – the short tail and aggressive looking twin headlight fairing are almost indistinguishable from the 600 at distance. Colours are blue/black, red/white, grey/black or yellow/black.

I am in love with the 1854cc V-twin powered chopper-inspired 2008 Raider. So much so that i also built my custom Raider which will cost me $16,380 ( thats about $3000 worth of accessories over the base price). I cant afford to place the order right now, all i can do is just drool over.
Features of 2008 Raider:-

Engine:

113-cubic-inch (1854cc) air-cooled, pushrod 48-degree V-twin pumps out max torque at just 2500 rpm and max power at 4500 rpm for powerful, relaxed cruising. Four pushrod-activated valves and two spark plugs per cylinder provide optimum combustion efficiency along with classically beautiful engine architecture. Plated cylinders and forged pistons cooled by oil jets provide outstanding reliability and long life. Twin counterbalancers keep things smooth but rumbly. 9.48:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing increase power output across the board. Computer-controlled, twin-bore, fuel injection monitors multiple engine parameters to calculate perfect mixture under all conditions; wide-angle 12-hole fuel injectors provide excellent atomization. A 3.5-liter airbox is hidden in the area behind the fuel tank for great performance and a custom, airy look. Two-into-one-into-two exhaust with Exhaust Ultimate Power valve (EXUP) inside boosts torque in the 2500-3500 rpm range. Special custom-machining of the cooling fin edges gives a jewel-like appearance to the engine as light hits it from different angles.

Chassis/Suspension:

New design all-aluminum cast frame is light, rigid and tuned for light, athletic handling. A light, Controlled-Fill, aluminum swingarm casting complements the bike’s lithe style. Low, sculpted seat holds the rider in place, and pullback bars reach back to enforce a casual, urban cruising style. A 6-degree yoke angle—the first ever on a street-legal Star Motorcycle—makes it possible to achieve that custom look as well as natural handling and straight-line cruisability: 34-degree rake plus 6 degrees yoke angle gives total rake of 40 degrees and 102mm of trail, while bringing the fork closer to the steering axis. Custom 5-spoke wheels carry a 120/70-21-inch bias tire up front, and a wide, 210/40-18 radial out back—the tallest and widest ever on a Star. 46mm fork tubes serve up an excellent ride and a sweet appearance through 5.1 inches of wheel travel. A tucked-out-of-sight single shock out back provides a smooth ride under varying loads. New seamless fuel tank carries a full 4.1 gallons of fuel. Front brake master cylinder with integrated lever operates a pair of 298mm front discs squeezed by strong monoblock calipers for excellent power and feel, with a 310mm disc out back. Strong, light and narrow belt final drive contains embedded carbon fiber for even greater strength. Wiring harness uses lightweight AVSS wires, and switchgear wiring is routed inside the handlebar for a clean appearance.

Additional Features:

Left-thumb operated high-beam switch, and right-thumb activated accessory driving light switch for great visibility. Jewel-like fit and finish, and Star quality paint, chrome and attention to detail are evident all over the Raider. Cool, tank-mounted instrumentation complements the custom look, and contains analog speedometer and fuel gauge, along with twin digital tripmeters, odometer and self-diagnostics. Bright multi-reflector headlight, LED taillight and amber turn signals behind clear lenses give a custom look. Oxygen sensor and three-way catalyst reduce emissions.

“S” model gets even more chrome: chrome triple clamps, fork sliders, air box cover, headlight housing, handlebar risers, etc.

YAMAHA FZ150 LAUNCH IN NOVEMBER 2008

Yamaha FZ 150 motorcycle will debut in India in later half of 2008 at an expected price of Rs 90,000 and Rs 70,000 on-road Delhi.

After the big news of the upcoming launch of the Yamaha YZF-R15, almost nothing else seems worth waiting for – and then you see the Yamaha FZ 150 cc motorcycle. You can see the official photo f the FZ 150 above - you know what I am talking about.

More than a decade back, I rode around on the streets f Mumbai, shit-scared, on a BMW F650 Funduro. The bike cost more than Rs 4 lakhs, and was an unqualified disaster when it came to sales. But it had a stance which reminded Mumbaikars of a stallion. Crowds gathered wherever I parked it.

The Yamaha FZ revealed for the first time at Auto Expo 2008 – they call it a prototype – reminded me of the F650 with its color scheme and upright stance. But the FZ looks more modern for sure. Yamaha says that the FZ 150 is just a prototype. Nobody in the motoring press believes them. Chances are, this 150 cc air-cooled motorcycle will make it into production towards the end of 2008.

You have basically the same engine as the YZF-R15 Yamaha on the Yamaha FZ 150, but this is more a road-and-track motorcycle than the YZF, which has racing pretensions even in the 150 cc guise.

So what you have is a motorcycle that will take on the Pulsars directly, and will tempt the owners of the regular econo-miser 150 cc motorcycles. The Yamaha FZ 150 will have a 5-speed gearbox which will put some 16-18 bp on the road – enough to become the performance 150cc king. The expected price (absolutely unconfirmed, and based on rumors, etc etc) is Rs 70,000 on-road in Delhi.

One advice: If you can hold on to your motorcycle purchase decision for a while, do so till you hear about the YZF R15 and the FZ from Yamaha. They might both be path-breaking motorcycles in India, and you don't want to feel bad about not buying them. Wait for a bit, it'll be worth it.

HISTORY OF YAMAHA INDIA

Yamaha, which made its foray into India 22 years ago in 1985, along with Escorts, the Indian experience has been somewhat mixed. In its 15-year partnership with the Indian tractor maker, Yamaha had made good inroads into motobike buyer’s psyche by offering them sporty, performance driven products. The RX100 was, and continues to be an iconic brand among bikers. However, the company had to discontinue the product after the government banned production and sales of two-stroke motorcycles. Up until the RX100 days, when the government allowed two stroke bikes, Yamaha had a decent market share. As the company moved into four-strokes, it moved beyond the niche segment, a perception which seems to have stayed in the customer’s perception. Like most other motorcycle manufacturers then, Yamaha went the majority way — targeting the commuter segment and offering them products that had low initial cost and good fuel consumption. Here’s Ishikawa view on Yamaha India. ‘We went Hero Honda’s way and so did others. However, the image for Yamaha was different from that of the majority. I believe there was a gap between what Indians wanted from us and, in turn, what we gave them,’ Ishikawa said. The company got caught in the volumes game and developed products that lacked Yamaha’s genes, Ishikawa explains. Yamaha’s performance in the market place dwindled, with market share falling to 3.6 percent in 2005-06 from 8.4 percent in 2000-01, when it parted ways with Escorts to go alone in the Indian market. In its 15-year partnership with Escorts, Yamaha had sold approximately 2.5 million motorcycles.

Had to do some travelling lately.. 12th June that was when the much awaited, much wanted and much talked bike, the Yamaha Yzf R15 was launched. During my travel, i saw a bike, a bike that was new, that was rare and demanded an expression to express the enthusiast in yourself, when it came a little closer with quite a speed, i was like "wow!! an R1", and then when it passed by i was like "hey, shit.. that was the YZF-R15" . Yes.. the name sound a bit long and mathematically physics and for some it may sound like a formulae.

The bike made me become jealous with the guy who was riding it, quite low it was though. When i met the bike eye to eye, it made me want to have it. The styling is similar to the R1, heck so what, R1 is Yamahas product. But we should be happy because we get the design of a bike that costs more, but.. for R1 users.. they might get a little angry, because their design had been stolen for smaller bikes. That wont hurt them comparing the engines, speed and performance of the R1 to the R15. The specs are quite interesting, but the power that had been the main discussion has now been cleared to the rumoured 22bhp to the official 17bhp and torque of 15Nm @ 7500rpm.

Yamaha on Monday said that they are on plans to launch two models in India this year. Yamaha will launch the Yamaha YZF R15 and the Yamaha FZ 150. These two bikes were showcased in the Delhi Autoshow, and made people crazy about them with the specs itself. The YZF R15, the bikes which many people were waiting to buy will be launched by next month - June.

Yamaha in India currently sold around 1.2Lakh bikes in the year 2007. With the launch of the new Gladiator twins - the type RS, type SS and the upcoming YZF R15 and FZ 150, Yamaha plans big by hoping to sell around 2-3Lakh bikes by the end of 2008.

To launch the fully faired, high powered bikes, Yamaha plans to set up company owned showrooms in 8 places. The company already has 400 dealers across the country. But the 8 new company owned showrooms would show Yamaha's ultimate class where the FZ 150 and the YZF R15 will be placed. We can even hope to find a Yamaha R1.

The 5 big hopes of these dealers are: Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Cochin, Bangalore.
